While visiting many churches and discussing theology in bible studies I’ve noticed that very few people seem to realize that the gospel is supposed to be obeyed. I think that’s because they don’t realize that God’s covenant, which includes His laws, is the complete gospel message in its entirety. Folks have been taught an abbreviated truncated gospel for so long that they many no longer recognize the whole truth. When we hear the term obey, it seems evident that things that are obeyed are laws (commandments and instructions) we are called to obey the gospel including “the law of faith”.
Here are some scriptures that declare we are to obey the gospel of God which is also called obeying the faith.
2Thessalonians 1:8
“In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and THAT OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ”
1Peter 4:17
“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them THAT OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of God?”
Romans 16:26
“But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FAITH”.
Romans 1:5
“By whom we have received grace and apostleship, FOR OBEDIENCE TO THE FAITH among all nations, for His name”
The Lord Jesus Christ said to His New Covenant churches that if they refused to obey His laws He would destroy them with death; that’s because the wages of sin is still death for ANY unrepentant sin and God is no respecter of persons, He is not partial in judgement and doesn’t have favoritism. God expects everyone to obey His laws under the same penalty of death. Jesus said this to His churches, those who received His Holy Spirit and grace:
Revelation 2:21-23
“And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to YOUR works.”
2Peter 2:20-21
“For if after the have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ , they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.”
