Be ye mindful always of His Covenant

1 Chronicles 16:15
“Be ye mindful always of His Covenant;
the word which He Commanded
to a thousand generations”

Down below is a list found in the Bible of all the generations from Adam until Jesus Christ. We can see that from the creation of Adam to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, there have only been 76 generations in around 4,000 years.

For me, this shows that we are no where close to having had 1000 generations yet.

From Adam to Noah are 10 generations,
From Shem to Terah are 10 generations,
From Abraham to King David are 14 generations,
From Nathan to Jose are 14 generations,
From Er to Mattathias are 14 generations,
From Maath to Jesus are 14 generations.

The Lord told us that He keeps covenant and mercy, which means grace, to a thousand generations to those who love Him and keep His commandments (Deuteronomy 7:9).  That means His Everlasting Covenant is conditional.  We must obey God’s commandments from a sincerely loving heart.  We must believe God and we must believe that by His grace and Spirit, WE CAN KEEP His commandments.  Anyone who preaches otherwise is calling God a liar and is working for Satan whether or not they realize it.

Isaiah chapter 24 warns us that the earth will be destroyed and the people who do not keep God’s covenant will also be destroyed by Him. This is a future event that is after Christ’s death, burial, resurrection and ascension into heaven.  This means that it will be occurring under the New Testament time period and under the New Covenant.  It’s important to recognize that God is saying that because people living under the New Covenant time period have broken His laws (covenant) that the curse of the covenant will destroy the earth and the unrepentant sinners too.  We are still held accountable for keeping God’s laws today.

The law that we are no longer “under” which the apostle Paul was referring to in Romans 6:14 is “the wages of sin is death” law.   He is specifically speaking of those believers who are IN Christ who are not walking after the lusts of their flesh through unrepentant sinning.  He is only speaking of the believers who are keeping God’s covenant by daily confessing and repenting of sin just like we are commanded to do.

Romans 6:14
“For sin shall not have DOMINION over you:
for ye are not under the law,
but under grace.”

How does sin have dominion over someone? It is through death; because the wages of sin is death. But when we are forgiven it’s by grace that we were made free from death and we are no longer under the law of “the wages of sin is death”.

Romans 6:9
“Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more DOMINION over Him.”

God’s command and expectation is for us not to continue in sin.

1John 2:1
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”

1John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
This world wide destruction we are warned about in Isaiah chapter 24, is going to occur during the New Testament time period because there is still a death penalty to all those who do not keep God’s covenant and commandments (those who are unrepentant) whether or not they call Him Lord and Savior.

Deuteronomy 7:9-12
“Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His Commandments to a thousand generations; And repayeth them that hate Him to their face, to destroy them: He will not be slack to him that hateth Him, He will repay him to his face. Thou shalt THEREFORE keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. WHEREFORE it shall come to pass, IF ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, THAT the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which He sware unto thy fathers:”

Psalms 105:6-10
“O ye seed of Abraham His servant, ye children of Jacob His chosen. He is the LORD our God: His judgments are in all the earth. He hath remembered His Covenant for ever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations. Which Covenant He made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an Everlasting Covenant:”

Galatians 3:29
“And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed,
and heirs according to the promise.”
