Christianity is monotheistic which means we believe in only one God, not many or multiple Gods. And our Bible teaches us that there is only one God.

Mark 12:28-34
“And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him,

The first of all the commandments is,
Hear, O Israel;
The Lord our God is one Lord:
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God

with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind,
and with all thy strength:
this is the first commandment.

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

And the scribe said unto Him,
Well, Master,
Thou hast said the truth:
for there is one God;
and there is none other but He:

And to love Him with all the heart,
and with all the understanding,
and with all the soul,
and with all the strength,
and to love his neighbour as himself,
is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask Him any question.”
Zechariah 14:9
“And the LORD shall be king over all the earth:
in that day shall there be one LORD,
and His name one.”

Isaiah 44:8
“Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even My witnesses. Is there a God beside Me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.”

However, our Bible also speaks about:

God the Father,

The Son of God Who is also called God and Lord,

The Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit;

Jesus said in the Old Testament that we were gods and mentions that in the New Testament.

And Satan is called the god of this world.

Since there is only one God but it “appears” there is more than one, how do we resolve this and figure out the solution to this problem, this mystery? How do we find the answer to this question if there’s only one God then why does the Bible mention several?

This scripture shows us that God wants us to know the truth:

Proverbs 25:2
“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing:
but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.”

This scripture promises us that God will reward those who are humbly and sincerely asking and searching for Him. He will give them answers when they are searching for His truth.

Luke 11:9
“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
I believe the word of God is true and I have prayed asking God the answer to this question and I’ve searched and searched the Bible for the answer.

This is what I’ve found; there is only one self existent God. There is only one being who has never come forth from another being. He has never been the offspring or child of another being. He has never been created. He has never been given life by someone or something else. He has always been self existent having life in Himself. He is also self existing continually for eternity having life within Himself and He can never die being immortal. He is called “I am”, the most high God, God the Father, Yahweh, Yah, El, Jehovah and LORD. He has no need of any other being because He is completely full and self-sufficient. He has life in Himself alone and no one can take it from Him. He is all powerful and the very head of everyone and everything. He is the highest ruler, the highest in the chain of authority; the most high God.

Just like a mathematical line has no beginning and no end, so is God the Father. He has always been alive and He will always be alive.

From our perspective we would like to say that God the Father came first, but that is not precisely accurate. He is the head because He is foremost; but He has always been.
